No, I have not installed the redist, as it is not required to run the game 
(the game ships with the necessary MSVCR DLLs and I like to keep things as 
simple as possible).  I am certain that my issues running exefile.exe were due 
to the misconfigured path of the MSVC 8 runtime libs.

On the positive side, looks like someone managed to get a backtrace.  Thanx
