There are some downloadable .wmv files on http://www.educationalquestions.com/video.htm.
I downloaded the first one on that page. It plays fine in demo.exe, though it crashes when it reaches the end of the video. The same video hangs MPC-HC when you try to open it and can't be inserted into Powerpoint 2007.

That's the one I tested.
It reports that No interface for {37d84f60-42cb-11ce-8135-00aa004bb851}! on my computer, either.
I get that in the console, too, but the video plays for me in your demo program.
I use Fedora, and compile wine from git. What's your distro? How do you get your packages?
I'm on openSUSE 13.1. I've been testing with the distro package.
