[Bug 27650] New: World of Warcraft Launcher 4.2 crashes on initialisation
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=27650 Summary: World of Warcraft Launcher 4.2 crashes on initialisation Product: Wine Version: 1.3.23 Platform: x86 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org ReportedBy: ktowns(a)live.com.au Created an attachment (id=35354) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=35354) Terminal output Basically as the summary reads. It crashes at the point of saying 'Initialising, please wait.' It did work *once* for me, after a restart, but that hasn't worked again. This is with a fresh installation, new prefix. I've previously tried winetricks ie7 as suggested under a similar bug report, but to no avail. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

Same here. Ubuntu 10.04 64-bit identical problems with wine-1.2r6 and wine-1.3.31 (ubuntu distro). http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=27650 --- Comment #14 from Thomas Spear <Speeddymon(a)gmail.com> 2011-11-25 05:55:33 CST --- With wine-1.3.33 from fedora updates-testing, with a clean ~/.wine the launcher still crashes inside wine. BTW, I feel I should mention that by crash here, I get the popup from wine and backtrace in console. The actual Launcher.exe continues running and responding to mouse input, but it doesn't keep downloading. In fact, it doesn't even close fully when I've hit the close button. The window disappears, but it stays running. I let it go for ~40 minutes now and it was using 100% CPU (idle priority maybe? I didn't notice any slow down of my laptop), so then I finally killed it. Removing ~/.wine, re-running winecfg, installing gecko, and then installing ie6 via winetracks still produces the same result (launcher crash with blizzard's submit box appearing to allow you to report the issue to Blizzard -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

It could be a total fluke, but I started the Launcher with WINEDEBUG=+wininet instead my usual WINEDEBUG=-all, and I was able to get it to run long enough to get the core part of the new 4.3 update installed and get me into the game. Is it possible that the extra work of outputting all the debug info prevented or delayed some sort of race condition that is causing the launcher to crash? -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

Rather than running the Launcher to update WoW, run the BackgroundDownloader.exe in the WoW directory, and as soon as it opens, go into the preferences for that app, disable Peer to Peer downloading, and enable "Don't throttle background download". Then exit the background downloader, run the launcher and see if you still get the same issue. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

K. <shadowcat8(a)excite.com> 2011-11-30 18:21:50 CST --- The workaround in comment #16 worked for me... eventually. I was getting a Windows error immediately upon starting the BackgroundDownloader.exe. The error was "Invalid Torrent File". So, as I was going into the installation of WoW to see if I could find the torrent file it was complaining of, I got an idea. I ran the downloader from the last patch (which was only 12MB), and that let me access the Preferences to disable the peer-to-peer and enable the "Don't throttle..." Then, I re-ran the Launcher and it was able to run and even loaded the News page fully. Thanks and I hope this helps. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

If you haven't installed any IE Winetricks, you can close the WoW Error dialog when Launcher.exe crashes and get into the Downloader Preferences and make the necessary changes described in Comment #16. I don't think this works if you have installed any version of IE however, because you then get a different error popup. By the way, the workaround I suggested in Comment #15 does not work, don't try it. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.
