The problem could be that when you run the configuration tool first, the file 'ps.config' and it's parent directories (Pendulo Studios->TNBT) in C:\ProgramData folder are missing (not created yet). The solution would be to start the main game first, create an in-game character and exit the game. You should see that the directories in C:\ProgramData were created. Now you can run the configuration tool, select a resolution, click <OK>. The crash is gone.
