I also use finale and I have the same problem with squares instead of jazz symbols. 
Please have a look at this bug:

I think that this is the same bug. If you agree with me, please add comments to
that bug and mention your finale, wine, freetype and fontforge versions as well.
Maybe we can convince wine team to take it more seriously ;-)
You can also add commments and put a bug link in the appropriate version of finale.
