I couldn't apply the 4 patches in #17195 on recent Wine versions, so I tested with Wine 1.4.1. With a patched Wine 1.4.1 adding books to the library works.
err:service:scmdatabase_load_services Error 1804 reading registry key for service L"papycpu2" - skipping @Xwang: you have additional software(drivers) installed. When reporting bugs in Wine, please always test in a clean wineprefix. Apart from that I can confirm the reported problem with Calibre.
