[Bug 31007] New: Shogun Total War 2 (Steam) thinks it's pirated
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=31007 Bug #: 31007 Summary: Shogun Total War 2 (Steam) thinks it's pirated Product: Wine Version: 1.5.6 Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org ReportedBy: panayk(a)gmail.com Classification: Unclassified Shogun Total War 2 purchased and installed through Steam plays fine, albeit a little slowly. However during battles, it shows a message at the bottom, saying something to the effect that the installation has been tampered with, which can be due to pirating or a virus, and then prompting to purchase the game or repair the installation. I have tried repairing through Steam and reinstalling but the message is still there. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

It appears only in the battle screen and does go away after a minute or two. I wonder if its related to Civilization 4 not believing it can find Steam either... Either way there is no terminal output beyond the normal Steam ones you have. Happy to retest this with debug flags once I know which ones you'd want to see. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=31007 --- Comment #4 from Ben <thebenj88(a)gmail.com> 2012-09-01 23:33:53 CDT --- I've got the same bug. As with other users, reinstalling does not fix this, though waiting out the message or hitting escape twice (enter then exit in-game menu) will remove the message, and play can continue as normal. Nothing game breaking, so a low priority bug. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

After pirated notification we got kicked out of the game back to steam. You have to start the game again to do another battle. This makes doing an campaign impossible because of the kicking out! -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

The 'piracy' message is decoded at runtime, written to in-memory .png which is displayed as overlay hence you don't see it in cleartext in any binary. --- snip --- We have detected that the game executable has been tampered with and is likely to fail if you continue playing. This is usually due to an attempt to play a pirated copy of the game, but may in some cases be caused by a virus or cheat program. If you own a genuine copy of Total War™: SHOGUN 2 or Total War™: SHOGUN 2 - Fall of The Samurai please exit the game, verify your game cache in Steam, scan for viruses and disable any cheat programs you are running. If you do not own a genuine copy of Total War™: SHOGUN 2 or Total War™: SHOGUN 2 - Fall of The Samurai please purchase one from http://store.steampowered.com/app/34330/ or http://store.steampowered.com/app/201271/ --- snip --- The failing binary the message is talking about: 'Shogun2.dll' You can verify by re-validating game cache. It should always flag this binary as inconsistent and re-download it. --- snip --- -=[ ProtectionID v0.6.5.5 OCTOBER]=- (c) 2003-2013 CDKiLLER & TippeX Build 31/10/13-21:09:09 Ready...
