Damjan Jovanovic's patch rolled against 1.1.14

Damjan Jovanovic's patch, originally from 7/6/2007, modified to reflect updates
to serial.c, rolled against 1.1.14. Fixed my issues with USB/Serial for GPS.
Also applies to wine 1.1.3, but the location marker is as follows for 1.1.3:
