Funny output messages from wine are not bugs. If the game misbehaves (rather than just outputs funny stuff to log) once you do 'winetricks d3dx9_36', please file a new bug.

I tested the game (BttF: Episode 1) with Wine 1.5.10, using only built-in d3dx dlls. The game no longer crashes, but visuals aren't quite correct with the built-in d3dx9_36 (see attached screenshot). Native d3dx9_36 corrects the issue for me. I don't see any related d3dx messages in the terminal with current Wine.
