[Bug 59245] New: Automatic Update for new 11 version in Ubuntu 22.04 destroyed the pixel magnifying in Apps
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=59245 Bug ID: 59245 Summary: Automatic Update for new 11 version in Ubuntu 22.04 destroyed the pixel magnifying in Apps Product: Wine Version: 11.0 Hardware: x86-64 OS: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown Assignee: wine-bugs@list.winehq.org Reporter: pascal_mons@hotmail.com Distribution: --- Created attachment 80157 --> http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=80157 Previous View of Garmin MapSource Well unfortunately I let on an automatic update. So it installed WineHQ 11. However the new look is horrible and over magnified using MapSource from Garmin and other software as well. I use MapSource to map speed traps within France. I tried to modify the DPI with winecfg to no avail ... I tried to reverse to the previous 10 version using the 5 packages available for Focal 20.04 to no avail ... In fact you modified heavily the Windows title bar and font so heavily that's horrible. Here is a screenshot from the version 10 working nicely. And a new screenshot with your modifies parameters I cannot reverse, it looks over zoomed. It looks like I can still modify the text size but not at all the graphics. While having restored the packages from version 10 the destroyed level of zoom ... over zoom, is still there. Only solution re-installing the system. -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=59245 --- Comment #2 from Pascal Mons <pascal_mons@hotmail.com> --- These 2 screenshots were taken with the same settings. If I attempt to un-zoom on your new version I get the Garmin map disappears only stay a yellow background. Idem on the older version however I am able to do any kind of detail zoom in. You seem to have grossly magnified the app window bitmap to please some people complaining about small characters on newer displays. These actions render your application useless. When I look at country map I want to see a fair portion of it and being able to zoom in. That is not the case anymore. Worse it looks like the change is irreversible. In addition you forced your version 11 so called for jammy 22.04 which is my system it ended up with an install error. I had to manually clean up the mess. Just another thing that you obviously don't care about. I am looking to remove your app for good and find a more convenient and less prone to irreversible update. -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=59245 --- Comment #4 from Pascal Mons <pascal_mons@hotmail.com> --- Well I have restored version 8.01 and this time it works almost as before ... When you issued the 'new' version 8 in 2023 I believe the Drag & Drop feature for .gpx files didn't work at all ... I filed a bug which was in a matter of days corrected as an ill update did block the feature. I expected the versions 8 on your server was the good one to no avail the only build available are 8.01 and 8.02 which both forbid any Drag & Drop of a .gpx file ... So why is that ? why we couldn't access a working build of version 8 on your servers ? -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=59245 --- Comment #5 from Pascal Mons <pascal_mons@hotmail.com> --- In then installed the version 9.0.0.0 available on your server and this time the drag & Drop feature is working ... However the left pane listing the waypoints on the map is totally missing. Which in itself render MapSource UN-operable. As we need to update waypoints on routes and maps. This bug is present as well in your version 10.0.0.0 ... Again no left pane of waypoints ... You can see it from my screenshot of my previously working install. Should I file a new bug report for that one as well ? Or will you look into the issue ? The left panel can be minimized on the left border or expended. But at start-up of the application it should always show up, no matter what. -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=59245 --- Comment #6 from Pascal Mons <pascal_mons@hotmail.com> --- For reference on the left panel listing all waypoints : https://www.bestbikingroads.com/ms1.pdf I tried to install WineHQ 7.02 but it isn't working on Ubuntu 22.04. So I got back version 9 which was working fine before your forced update to 11 failed badly. The end result is even after restoring version 9 the MapSource application is broken and fails to display the left panel of waypoints. This failure is as well part of your new release version 10 and probably version 11 ... It looks like messing up with Microsoft windowing code in order to render beautiful the top bar icons (which aren't used anyway as there is still a text menu left you unable to deal with a retractable side panel ... -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. It was working on version 8 Absent on WineHQ version 9 and 10 and probably 11 ... See attachment. I guess the builds for ubuntu 22.4 are still "traditional" ones, only the questing ones seem to be new Wow64 builds. But using WINEARCH=win32 should not be necessary, so you might want to try reinstalling in a new clean prefix. (In reply to Pascal Mons from comment #4)

If you're talking about https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=55179 - that was fixed in 9.0-rc2, and ended up in the new stable 9.0 branch. So the 8.0 branch was obsolete by that time and received no more updates. Similar here, if you want to report bugs and have them fixed, you should test in the latest branch, unless you're trying to narrow down in which version a regression was introduced. -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=59245 --- Comment #9 from Pascal Mons <pascal_mons@hotmail.com> --- Thank you for your update. You can get easily a free map like this one of Peru dating back from 2017. https://www.perut.org/index2.htm I recommend you to download : mapa vectorial ruteable del PerĂº, archivo EXE para instalar en Windows. https://www.perut.org/Adk-downloads/Perut_2017-01.exe I have it installed years ago and there is no virus whatsoever. Given your post I will try your latest version. But the version 10 looked bad on my screen. The most un-zoomed view on MapSource is 30 km at 50 km and more they switch to a standard background world map ... The most un-zoomed view on MapSource is 30 km at 50 km and more they switch to a standard background world map ...
Which isn't present when installed in wine. So you get a yellow background ...
Thanks for your comments.

http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=59245 --- Comment #12 from Pascal Mons <pascal_mons@hotmail.com> --- [Final Update] Your force update to version 11 from your repository on my Ubuntu 22.04 Jammy completely broke my wine32 prefix. All installed programs were not even starting. Among them Garmin MapSource. I tried to re-install within the same prefix and MapSource wouldn't display the left pane containing all waypoints details ... some lighter programs would work though. I had to install a new wine32 prefix from scratch with packages from WineHQ 9, ] and reinstall all programs ! Of course I removed your repository from my sources. In 2 years you broke 2 times my working install of MapSource. The first time it wasn't able to process any drag & drop. Again your new version 11 renders beautiful the icon menu bar, which obviously I don't care much about. However you over-magnified the [Garmin Maps] bitmap meaning there is no more an overall view [at scale 30 km] of half or more of a European country, or any other like Peru. When creating routes from A to B this is a real problem as well for any other waypoint application. For 50 km scale and more Garmin MapSource in windows switch to a default world map which doesn't show up in wine. We only get a yellow empty background. I use a 4K HD screen and with previous versions of WineHQ I enjoy a detailed view of large parts of any map. -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply.
