I have some information on this VGA register (& others).  Maybe it will help
someone wanting to work on this.

Register 0x03ba is a general VGA register that refers to input status.
[7][6][5][4][3][2][1][0]
[7][6]- 0 0
[5][4]-system diagnostics
[3]-vertical retrace; 1 retrace in progress, 0 no retrace occuring
[2]-EGA light pen switch
[1]-EGA light pen strobe
[0]-1 CPU is accessing display, 0 no display access occuring
