I've been having problems with wine for a while and wiped my whole computer to
try and 'fix' it because nothing was working from the wiki or forums.

Actually, the only clear thing that output says, is that there is no
'update.exe' within the default lookup path (current dir + a couple other (like
C:\Windows)).

That would only be a bug if you knew for a fact that there is one.

Wine doesn't have a builtin update mechanism; you'll need to update it through
your package manager (or compile from source).
