I'm not sure exactly what solves it, but *sometimes* (not always) restarting or changing the wine version fixes it, though no matter if it's 0.9.59 or 1.0-rc5 it will eventually start again if I open the game again during the same startup. I have been playing TF2 perfectly under dx8.1 with graphics turned all the way up (and res as high as possible, 1680x1050) and it has worked excellently with no problems except for the server webpage at the first page when you choose a server (it's just black). Half Life 2 and the sequels still work just as fine. I managed to capture the bug while outputting to a text file.
