Launching through any means fails (within steam client, from applaunch -440 launcher, from the context menu of steam). Hl2.exe appears briefly in processes, marks ptrace_stop, and then disappears. Half Life 2 launches and plays normally, as do all other source games on Steam Apparently (from what I gather from elsewhere online) Valve updated with a hardware checker. Unrecognized hardware causes a failure to launch. This addresses issues with high DPI mice, and provides for a more reliable controller experience at various resolutions [Windows] Improved custom mouse acceleration [Windows] Updated mouse configuration UI to support raw input and acceleration; added tooltips to some of the options [Windows] Fixed UI tooltips so that they display correctly on first hover As you can read, source engine does not use windows cp settings. Now all of a sudden Left 4 Dead 2 works again. I disabled Ubuntu ptrace protection, launched L4D2 successfully, and managed to launch it again with ptrace protection enabled. Also was able to successfully join a single player game. Didn't test multiplayer because I couldn't find a game going this early. Adding gameoverlayrenderer to Libraries as Disabled in WineCFG fixes this for me.

This will get source games work back again but disables the in game overlay. Can you confirm that? I'm at university now and I can't open steam. I'll test that on Left 4 dead 1 when I can. But is curious that raw mouse input related changes in source engine causes a crash when using the renderer.... By the way...Is that bug confirmed in ogher source games? This is without any gameoverlayrender overrides.I havent touched any wine config. The game started working with the new ia 32 libs.
Of course , like always the game hard locks with my ATI 4850 .So it has always been unplayable for me.Only half life 2 is playable at decent fps.
I just got an updated wine now 1.3.14 today , will install and report back.
Did you install Wine from source or from a .deb package? Because after installing Wine 1.3.14 from source, source games other than Half-Life 2 refuse to launch still.
On Debian Squeeze, currently wondering what is needed in order to play this game, among others. I've got the IA32 libraries installed, none need to be updated.

Interesting, so IA32 libs are the reason as to why TF2 won't work for me or any other game for that matter? It's kinda random and annoying. Hi ia32 libs is only for the 64 bit version of ubuntu, actually that is why the package is called ia32 because its the required 32 bit libraries which are needed in ubuntu 64 bit version,, you should continue to disable gameoverlayrenderer if that is working for you. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

So, for Debian, I have to look for more ia32 libs? Do development ones exist for compiling from source? Or could I just use the .debs if they exist for the devs?
