[Bug 36336] New: NaturallySpeaking doesn't work with alsa or pasuspender
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=36336 Bug ID: 36336 Summary: NaturallySpeaking doesn't work with alsa or pasuspender Product: Wine Version: 1.7.18 Hardware: x86 OS: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: winmm&mci Assignee: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org Reporter: susancragin(a)earthlink.net Created attachment 48412 --> http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=48412 natspeak runtime log with pasuspender Dragon NaturallySpeaking works very well on linux systems that rely on pulseaudio. However, if it is installed on a system that does not come preloaded with pulseaudio (such as Lubuntu) the audio does not work. I tried installing in a clean Lubuntu system, and then tried installing pulseaudio. No good. I tried installing with pulseaudio running. Yay. Success. Then I tried to run the program with pasuspender, with the following results. fixme:winmm:MXD_SetControlDetails What should the sw-side mixer controls map to? fixme:mmdevapi:MMDevice_Activate IID_IDeviceTopology unsupported fixme:winmm:MXD_SetControlDetails What should the sw-side mixer controls map to? -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=36336 --- Comment #1 from Susan Cragin <susancragin(a)earthlink.net> --- patch by Andrew Eikum mentioned in 10495, attachment 48861, may partially fix this problem, in that it seems to make wine access alsa. See my comments. It made NatSpeak run with alsa directly only. Did NOT affect pasuspender. -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=36336 --- Comment #2 from Susan Cragin <susancragin(a)gmail.com> --- I suggest you mark this bug as fixed. The issue of NatSpeak running with alsa is resolved, and that's the important part of this bug. (Natspeak runs better under plain alsa, by the way.) The other part, running Natspeak under pasuspender or not is trivial for Natspeak users, since most current versions of linux seem to provide some way to easily disable pulseaudio on startup, and most NatSpeak users will go with either PA or alsa permanently. Also, pasuspender itself may have problems. -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

Pasuspender is not needed. -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
