What Wine version are you using? What video card and drivers version? Have you changed any default 3D settings?
I have tested this on versions 1.0.1 all through 1.1.14, I think that it has always been this way. I am using an nVidia Corporation GeForce 8600M GT (rev a1) 512mb, and it is running on the Proprietary NVIDIA accelerated graphics driver (version 177) provided by Ubuntu under Hardware Drivers. The Video card doesn't matter though as I have gotten reports of this from other people as well as testing it on various computers.
