The second step is to input the correct product key (see attached screen shot). Whenever I type in the correct product key for my Office installation , wine just crashes. I get no console output and setup.exe starts eating up my cpu (100% load). Yes, this is just to show that product key checking is probably not the cause of the error but the step that comes right afterwards. I was a little too hasty.
