(Removed the wine-staging package and installed plain wine; created new wineprefix same as before) also forgot to list these steps in last comment: winetricks -q ie8 ran wine skype /username:username /password:password (/legacylogin doesn't seem to work anymore? maybe it was removed) I'm in process of building wine-stable (1.8.4). Installer crashed after "Continue" with error: err:ole:CoCreateInstanceEx apartment not initialised To successfully test I ran the already installed skype from the 1.9.19 prefix with wine-1.8.4 and it ran smoothly (with the exception that it crashed when I quit skype). The about window showed up fine.
