[Bug 29572] New: Midtown Madness 2 speedometer slows game down
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=29572 Bug #: 29572 Summary: Midtown Madness 2 speedometer slows game down Product: Wine Version: 1.3.36 Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org ReportedBy: magnedj(a)gmail.com Classification: Unclassified I installed the game after using 'winetricks directmusic' as described in report #21249, and everything worked pretty well. But rendering is a little sluggish, so after doing some trial-and-error I found the cause to be the digital speedometer in lower left corner. You can toggle it on and off with H, and as such I found the game to run quite a bit smoother after toggling it off, and then slower again when toggling it on again. I found that this affects both the full version of the game, and the trial available at http://download.microsoft.com/download/midtownmad2/Trial/1.0/W9X2K/EN-US/mm2... (You may need to use a virtual desktop in order to get the setup rendering correctly. However, the game runs well in fullscreen in my experience.) In multiplayer games it's quite a nuisance having to turn off the speedometer to achieve acceptable rendering, so if someone could have a look at this and perhaps improve the situation, I and my friends would be very grateful. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

This is more noticeable with screen resolutions >1024x768. The mouse pointer is also more sluggish in the menus than it was with Wine-1.3.28. The car selection screen also shows a slowdown compared to 1.3.28. Performance was steady with 1.3.28 whether the HUD was turned on or off, and regression testing resulted in 1aeee59bd8b6172c848c8029e1a55ddac1f93c44 is the first bad commit commit 1aeee59bd8b6172c848c8029e1a55ddac1f93c44 Author: Henri Verbeet <hverbeet(a)codeweavers.com> Date: Thu Sep 15 20:01:50 2011 +0200 ddraw: Use offscreen backbuffers. In principle this allows us to use more than one backbuffer in ddraw.
