I am running the game in Windows 7 mode. When I install the game via Steam it appears to successfully perform the first time setup steps (installing DirectX, the Visual C redistributables). I don't have any overrides installed via winetricks. This may not be relevant at all, but were you aware of bug 40884?

As I thought too that you are most likely using alsa or pulseaudio. But I just rechecked the bug and a thought came to my mind that if the title is just assumption that the cause is the certain audio. I read few comments and I came to conclusion that there is no clear clue that the real reason is OSSv4. It's actually regression bug and there is another bug with same regression id.
