it also crashes when you open the attachment by clicking on the link in this bug report
That's a crash I can confirm. Created simple test.html based on this: https://www.w3schools.com/html/tryit.asp?filename=tryhtml_basic_document test.xhtml was created with commands shown on comment 6. Files were saved to same directory as iexplore. I started iexplore.exe and typed line below to url: file://c:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\test.html File opened normally. Next i typed the xhtml location into url: file://c:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\test.xhtml This caused error message to be shown. Message had this information Assertion failed.
