After freshly installing Wine 1.2.2 using 'sudo apt-get install wine' on Ubuntu 10.10, I ran the Windows program installer from a CD with 'wine start setupAvaSoftUSB2.EXE'. The installer reported some problems, see attachment. However, the program icon appeared on the desktop. When double-clicking it, the program started to run, but then the window 'Program Error' appeared with the suggestion to report this bug here. I rerun it in Terminal, the log is also shown in the attachment. In both cases (in the end of installation and after closing the launched program), Wine stopped doing anything after showing the last line in log. In GUI, the following errors are shown when the program stops working: 'Application Error: Exception EExternalException in module ntdll.dll at 0002D908. External exception C0000025.' Then 'avaspec76usb2: Access violation at address 7D7A5540*. Read of address 7D7A5540*.' four times. Then 'Runtime error 216 at 0299F6C4' * This number is not reproducible, it changes each time. E.g. This is a driver to connect an external device (optical spectrometer). Looks like this is a USB driver, it won't work under Wine.
It is not a USB driver. The USB driver is NOT installed (see comment to the screenshot attachment). The program can work in the simulation mode, when it can open and display previously saved data.

It looks like it wants msscript.ocx.
With this advice, I have progressed a bit further. However the program still crashes with the log attached as wine-avasoft-20110411-1208. Any further suggestions will be gratefully tested :)
