[Bug 48333] New: Logos Bible Software Indexing fails
https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=48333 Bug ID: 48333 Summary: Logos Bible Software Indexing fails Product: Wine Version: 5.0-rc2 Hardware: x86 OS: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown Assignee: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org Reporter: johnpgoodman(a)gmail.com Distribution: --- Logos Bible Software is a bit like Kindle but with a focus on theological books that are all hyperlinked and indexed for fast research. To function the software must index the books (often thousands) to enable fast searches. Every time a new book is added indexing must take place. Logos Bible software works very well (bronze) on wine but it is necessary to set win version to xp and 32bit for indexing to succeed. The 64bit version of the app runs with win version set to 7 but regardless of the win version setting indexing fails. The Logos indexer runs in a separate process with the following command: WINEPREFIX=/home/$USER/.wine-logos/ wine c\:'/users/$USER/Local Settings/Application Data/Logos/System/LogosIndexer.exe' Note if the index is already created it will complete immediately. Otherwise it runs in the system tray and has a simple menu that allows indexing to be paused temporarily. The indexer does not crash for me (win7 version set) with latest Staging. At least in vanilla wine i consequently get crashes, but they seem to be different from now and then, don`t know why. Anyway, confirming there`s a bug in vanilla wine -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

Patch for bug 47668. was rewritten (thanks Zebediah!) and my guess is this crash comes from using my old (rather poor) patch. To summarize: could you apply the above linked patch on vanilla wine and see if it resolves this bug? Regards -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. Is that patch newer than the one is staging 5.0 rc2?
No it isn`t, is that crash from comment 1 while running Staging-5.0rc2? Because it is not clear what wine (staging) version you were running there. As i said, for me in staging-5.0rc2 it doesn`t crash, but maybe it needs some special "books" to get git crash (????) Seemed to crash at different points. Once at 50%, once at 52% another time I missed it. Note there is a definite improvement with rc2. In rc1 I didn't see a percentage progress report.
But are you sure it crashes? I just tried again, the icon appears in the taskbar, i can see that the percentage goes up, and then it exits. I`m just guessing that indexing has finished??? When i restart it exits immedialety , i guess indexing is not needed anymore? In your last attachment i don`t see a crash either How can one know if indexing completed successfully, you have an idea? -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. How can one know if indexing completed successfully, you have an idea?
Typically you know indexing has finished when the icon is no longer in the task bar. There are times in the port to Wine that is not the case. I have been able to get indexing to fully complete on 64 Bit Logos in a 64 Bit Wine prefix on Kubuntu 19.10. This was accomplished by checking the index folders as referenced in this post on the Logos forums: https://community.logos.com/forums/p/121/1081685.aspx#1081685 No one else has posted if it has worked for them. I have verified it works by running it twice - both fully completed without crash. -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=48333 --- Comment #14 from m0rvj <johnpgoodman(a)gmail.com> --- Frank, the question is can we be sure that the index is fully built properly? This is actually a hard question. On my mac indexing seems to go at a fairly even pace from 0 to 100%. On wine it seems to sometimes report progress, other times not. Go so far and then hang... the icon still there. Even the 32bit version when I added the NIVAC commentaries which I bought today only got so far as 12%. When I quit Logos after a couple of minutes the indexer also exited. It didn't reindex when I opened it again. It's very hard to know if that was completed or not! -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. Yeah, the percentage has never seemed to work. My suggestion/observation was based upon auditing the index folders and comparing the folders and files they contained to a fully indexed Windows system. Based on the comparison, the three index folders should contain 9 files and the files matched both in name and file size. So on a programming level, I cannot say. I will leave that to those of you with the experience to do so. I was trying to offer an avenue that gave an option to verify the validity of the indexing process by comparison to the working version in Windows 10 -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply.
