Required SAPI5 installation with Wine in Windows ME emulation mode beforehand. Added another Text-to-Speech (TTS) engine (Demo of Text Aloud) to test, and it worked, using one of IVONA's voices. Copy is, of course licensed, although the demo has same results. IVONA Reader fails to load every time. Please specify the Wine version you are using? Is there any reason that you change the default Windows version that Wine reports?

Read on the Internet that I had to go back to Windows ME. I get a Program Error Message saying: "The program IVONA Reader.exe has encountered a serious problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." When I click on the "Show details" button I get a message: "Loading detailed information, please wait ..." If you don't do this, crashes are expected since Wine doesn't implement SAPI/MS Speech Engine. Resolving 'fixed' although there was likely nothing to fix here since OP/other commenters didn't install SAPI properly/at all.
