Yes the game has a copy protection. If you use the stream version it is the normal steam copy protection. in the Runic version there is also a copy protection and for now wine will crash because of it. This DRM scheme was also used by Torchlight 1 (see bug 23090), L.A. Noire (bug 29128) and Max Payne 3 (bug 30822), and that's just the ones I found by searching Bugzilla for "gameshield". Seems to me like this (effectively) a duplicate of bug 29448, since I don't see this problem any more in Wine 1.7.1.
