[Bug 45412] New: Mailing list for AppDB admins/maintainers
https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=45412 Bug ID: 45412 Summary: Mailing list for AppDB admins/maintainers Product: WineHQ.org Version: unspecified Hardware: x86 OS: Linux Status: NEW Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: www-unknown Assignee: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org Reporter: dimesio(a)earthlink.net Distribution: --- The AppDB currently has a link whereby admins can email all maintainers, which is useful for announcements, but not discussion. Discussion of AppDB issues sometimes takes place on wine-devel, but few maintainers subscribe to that mailing list, and the issues are generally not of interest to developers. This is a feature request to add a mailing list for AppDB admins and maintainers, as discussed at WineConf2017. Posting to the list should be limited to those groups, but the posts should be archived on winehq.org and visible to anyone. Subscribing to the list should be automatic based on admin/maintainer status, so if mailman is used to maintain the list, there would need to be a daily cron job to update it. -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=45412 --- Comment #10 from Jeremy Newman <jnewman@winehq.org> --- Besides using this bug as a bugzilla test (sorry about that), do we still want this feature? First thing to note is that it is impossible to implement as a mailing list in this way as to be automated with Mailman. Our mailman mailing lists require confirmation and admin approval to subscribe to them these days to combat spam. Also, there isn't a way in mailman itself to limit posting to some users and not others, at least not in a way that can be automated from the AppDB. Yes, there is a posting whitelist field in mailman, but that is only set via admins. I feel this could best be accomplished internally in the AppDB itself by creating a simple forum in it. The AppDB already has the ability to do conversations as seen on Apps themselves. So we could just use this code to create a threaded forum. Does that sound like a workable solution? Or is the AppDB so dead these days that we don't really care anymore. -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. I'm inclined to say the latter, but I'm not as active in the AppDB as I used to be. I'm going to mark this abandoned and see if anyone complains. -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
