Trouble installing MS SQLserver 2000 Client Tools

Hi, I've been trying to install the SQLserver Client Tools with Wine 20030911 (on Redhat 9). The setup process fails near the beginning because it cannot install MDAC ("Setup is installing Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC) ..."). It exits with a dialog that says "Installation of the Microsoft Data Access Components package failed. (-1)". The following console messages are displayed: fixme:process:CreateProcessA (F:\standard\x86\other\sqlredis.exe,...): CREATE_SEPARATE_WOW_VDM ignored fixme:win32:PE_CreateModule Security directory ignored fixme:process:CreateProcessA (E:\IXP001.TMP\setupre.exe,...): NORMAL_PRIORITY_CLASS ignored fixme:string:MultiByteToWideChar MB_USEGLYPHCHARS not supported fixme:string:MultiByteToWideChar MB_USEGLYPHCHARS not supported fixme:string:MultiByteToWideChar MB_USEGLYPHCHARS not supported fixme:string:MultiByteToWideChar MB_USEGLYPHCHARS not supported I can't install MDAC standalone (MDAC_TYP.EXE from microsoft's website) either, but I don't think that matters because SQLserver setup will always try to install MDAC. Note that I have IE 5.5SP2 installed, and I think DCOM98 (I can't tell if that failed or succeeded) according to instructions in the WineHQ appdb. Wine is emulating "win98". Any hints? Thanks

When trying to playing "The Elder Scrolls III: Tribunal" version 1.4.1313 german I get now the following fixme's: fixme:d3d:IDirect3DDevice8Impl_LightEnable Light enabled requested but light not defined, so defining one! Now the cone's of the lights are visible on surfaces near a source. Looks better now, but the known issues (body texture missing, crash after a while) still persists. Michael

Fix for bug 640 - moving thin frames leaves mess

Hello! I've made a patch for http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=640 I'm sending it here because I don't 100% sure it's ready for wine-patches. But the patch fixes an important problem and I don't want it to be unnoticed. On certain versions of XFree86 (4.2.1 + Raveon 7000/VE), focus rectangles are painted in white. Also, windows with thin frames (including all popup windows) create mess when dragged, except in when managed mode. It appears that GXxor value used in graphics/x11drv/graphics.c is misinterpreted - instead of xoring the background with the pen color, the pen color is painted as is. Another xoring doesn't hide the rectangle, thus creating mess of white dotted rectangles. The radical fix would be to avoid GXxor completely, but I'm leaving it to gurus and I'm not sure if it's needed. Fortunately, there is a correct and justifiable fix on the higher level. The focus rectangle (e.g. the rectangle around active buttons) should be painted using the system text color. Xoring this color with background is wrong. Even on systems where it works, it changes the color from black to dark gray (light gray xor white), although not too much to notice it. DrawFocusRect() has been changed to use R2_COPYPEN mode. On the other hand, draw_moving_frame() should use xor, so using DrawFocusRect() is wrong there, once the later is fixed. PatBlt() with PATINVERT works just fine with buggy XFree86 and it's already used for thick frames. The patch uses a checkered brush to imitate the dotted line. The result is very close to what I see on Windows 2000 - dotted line of one pixel wide using inverted color. In fact, the frame seems to be redrawn faster and smoother than without the patch on the system without the bug. -- Regards, Pavel Roskin

Hi Jerry, With your patch applied, I get a write access to a NULL pointer when trying to get sound with dsound (winmm tests are running ok.) Since I was using precompiled RPMs from freshrpms.net when doing the first try, I switched to 0.9.7 sources. Same result. Hi list, to translate the wine dlls to italian, my idea was to just get the strings from a disassembled m$ dll. Also, the text strings in wine dlls are a little different here and there respect to windows, and I was thinking that it would be a good idea to uniform them, can I do this or would it be a DMCA violation (Not that I care about the DMCA but the main cvs server is in the US)?

winetests.exe with tests from CVS 2003-09-26 can be found here: http://vmlinux.org/~jakov/Wine/ (The bigger EXE size is due to tests generated from MSVC instead of MinGW.) EU patent news

The anti patent petition was a success, the EU law approved on the 24th has been changed so much sine the original version that software freedom is preserved, so decss will stay legal in europe, thanks to all that signed the petition. Member states shall ensure that data processing is not considered to be a field of technology in the sense of patent law, and that innovations in the field of data processing are not considered to be inventions in the sense of patent law. 6. The rights conferred by patents granted for inventions within the scope of this Directive shall not affect acts permitted under Articles 5 and 6 of Directive 91/250/EEC on the legal protection of computer programs by copyright, in particular under the provisions thereof in respect of decompilation and interoperability. 6a. Member States shall ensure that, wherever the use of a patented technique is needed for a significant purpose such as ensuring conversion of the conventions used in two different computer systems or networks so as to allow communication and exchange of data content between them, such use is not considered to be a patent infringement.
