There are some screenshots available now at http://www.flexbeta.net/main/articles.php?action=show&id=56 One of the comments on osnews noticed that in the picture http://www.flexbeta.net/images/david/winbridge_install.gif the second line in winbridge.lst is /etc/wine... There are more clues that this project David is just a (possibly repackaged) Wine. Gé van Geldorp.

[PATCH] Updates the wine alsa driver to the new alsa api. No functionallity changes.

Is there any chance of getting my patch into cvs. I could then start making further improvements to the winealsa driver. Currently, the winealsa driver does a lot of stuff it should not, and I will changing things to make it more reliable with a wider variety of sound cards. If my patch is not going into CVS, I will not proceed with improvements over that. Cheers James P.S. Patch was posted with same subject line to the wine-patches list a few days ago.

supported apps page, crash reporting, and phoning home on success

I was looking for a newbie project recommendation (for someone else, not me!), and figured "pick a popular windows app, and firm up wine support for it" would be a good one. Not knowing what apps are popular, I paid a visit to the winehq supported apps page. I noticed the page didn't have links to the apps' homepages, so I posted a patch to fix that. We're probably missing some apps that people use and like. I don't know where to get good data on this, though (I'm no Windows user!) Maybe we need to add a 'phone home' sort of option to Wine so that it gives people the option of uploading crash and/or success data for each app the user runs to winehq? I just pointed out that some of the versions mentioned there are so old they are either no longer downloadable, or (in the case of winmx) might contain serious security holes. wininet asynchronous transfers

I noticed the wininet callbacks don't respond quite the same as windows does. Primarily the async calls complete almost immediately while on windows they don't respond at all until an alertable function is called (eg. SleepEx). Looking through the wininet code, I noticed we are using worker threads for async transfers rather then async procedure calls via QueueUserAPC, which is how windows does it AFAICT. Is there a reason for this? Would it be a problem if the implementation was changed to use APC? IMHO this would reduce some overhead as we would not be creating extra worker threads when not really needed, the callbacks would respond more similar to how they respond under windows, and may significantly simplify the code. If there are no arguments against this, I would like to work on it.

Did you try on windows what happens with waveOutGetDevCaps(-1, ...) to see what Windows returns for the mapper itself. The current code (in mapper) assumes that mapper itself has capabilities (which I'm not sure of). It may well be that we shall return an error (independently on the number of installed drivers), but in that case, proper support is better in the wave mapper it self than in winmm. A+
