Intel quad core processor --- dual quad core? 8GB of memory Geforece 8800 Ultra --- SLI? 1TB storage Gigabit network, etc. IMHO, while benchmarking on strong systems gives interesting results too , we should stick to average systems. But for that purpose I now have a new laptop(intel core 2 duo, gf 7400) with a vista installation, so if I can get the apps going on vista I can compare them to wine. Although my laptop is rather expensive too, so not an average device, but its expensive because its a mobile device and not a desktop replacement laptop.

After working with all this 3D business since almost 2 years I do not know what this term would precicely mean :-o If they mean built-in benchmark tools, then we have something like that, the fps debug channel which shows the ddraw / d3d / opengl buffer flips per secound. But why would they prefer external stuff over the games' built-in benchmark features?

I believe some test sites like to build graphs of framerate over time. This lets them extract not only the average framerate, but also the minimum and maximum framerate, compare the graphs of different graphics cards / machines, etc. I assume that games don't always provide enough data which is why they'd use third party tools. -- Francois Gouget <fgouget(a)free.fr> http://fgouget.free.fr/ A black hole is just God dividing by zero.
