wine button

Here is my first attempt. I'm hardly an ace designer, so feel free to
criticize, tell me to junk it etc. 

I did try at first to make a browser style button, but it was very hard
to make the wine logo fit in a way that didn't look odd, as it's largely
a vertical type of logo. Also, is the Windows logo usable? I'd assume
it's trademarked or something, but i've seen the 4 colour blocks used in
for instance icon overlays in KDE.

If it's thought that this is too large, I can either scale it, or try
and make another from scratch that is more button sized.

Good design so far, but can someone think of some "chuckle" effect ?

Have the glass tipped on top of the windows logo, spilling wine on it, and
maybe a caption saying "Microsoft has been purified!"

nonono, I am at work, where I dont have access to a linux box with X11...  I
HAVE to use IE because I am in windows...

Mozilla works well in Windows. And if your boss doesn't want you to use
it, there's always ghostzilla (www.ghostzilla.com), or the IE Mozilla
skin...

So you have no excuse :)

Hmmm, probably to vertical. Here's a rough draft of an idea I had. Not
much better but it's just to spark discussion, give ideas, etc.

Features:
 * it's more horizontal
 * It just says 'Wine compatible'
 * I used the Wine glass as the 'i' in Wine
 * two colors kind of like the WineHQ logo


If someone wants to take this further (I won't not good enough with
graphics), then here's a todo list:
 * reduce the size. Should be the same size as the browser buttons
 * match the size of 'Wine' with that of the glass
 * needs a border all around, maybe some sort of bevel
 * maybe add a shadow to 'Wine', again, ala WineHQ Logo

The "works with wine" alliteration is good, although I think "wine" should
be in small-caps/capitals, similar to the logo on the WineHQ page.

Basic composition looks about right. Although its probably a bit big
(perhaps nearer 60x60). Either way, it definitely needs a border of some
kind. As you said, perhaps making it a button.

If it were me, I might try making the wine glass more "ghosted"  and put
it underneath both the "works with" and "wine". That should help save some
space too and make it look less tall, hopefully without looking too
cramped.
