Langauge fixes for the FAQ.
-
Q: How can I submit How-to's?
+
Q: How can I submit how-to's?
I tend to prefer 'howto' or 'how to' rather than 'how-to'. Also, plurals normally don't have a single quote. So I'd write 'howtos'. Alternately this could be rephrased as 'How can I submit a how to?'. -- Francois Gouget <fgouget(a)free.fr> http://fgouget.free.fr/ Stolen from an Internet user: "f u cn rd ths, u cn gt a gd jb n cmptr prgrmmng !"

how-to is not really a normal word, and to my knowledge, these kinds of words should have 's instead of s. Alexander N. Sørnes

Not that I know of. I think most native speakers just get the plural s and the 's genitive mixed up. Like their, there and they're. Of course, I'd have to ask a native speaker to confirm that. Or, while not an authoritative source, check out: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/English_plural As a native speaker, I would just use a plain s, as Wikipedia suggests.

No. This is a common mistake. "'s" is for possessive uses. I'd think the examples below are correct: Many how-tos are outdated and misleading. That how-to's spelling is perfect. Those how-tos' usefullness was thus vindicated. Kuba
