Sorry, I'm not sure - I'm very new to this. It looks like something very 
similar is going on at dlls/setupapi/tests/devinst.c:1078 already. 
Unless you've manually created the relevant entries under 
HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet the function wouldn't work anyway.
