Debugging quick question

I know I should know this, but can you programatically turn tracing on and
off for a specific channel?

(Alternatively except using winedbg is there any way of activating trace for
a running process)?

for example:
__WINE_SET_DEBUGGING(_WARN_, d3d, 1) 
but it's very ugly ,)
