The thing is also that in CrossOver or Proton we touch Wine quite often, and it needs to be constantly rebuilt in case something meaningful has changed. In Proton for instance if the source of a project hasn't changed, then an iterative build is almost no-op and has almost no overhead, so FFmpeg with its every version would never need to be rebuilt, but Wine overhead would multiply.
