Right, I had it done differently initially but the error was then leaking into the client side. What would think of calling glGetString unconditionally then clearing the error (or some push / pop logic)? Implemented that, also setting the error on the PE side when glGetString( GL_EXTENSIONS ) is supposed to fail and with some additional fixes.
