I will be starving when I arrive in Vienna. For me and the three other people who will be checking into the hotel at about 2pm on Friday, would you like to find a place to eat a late lunch and then go tour the city? I am open to eating and touring pretty much anywhere, although I would like to go for a ride on the giant ferris wheel or take a tour of the Schönbrunn Palace. -Alex

We have no formal lunch or dinner planned, but usually a big group (or multiple small groups) head for dinner in the evening.
The hotel is located at Mariahilfer Straße, which is the main shopping mall in Vienna. There are plenty of cafes and restaurants, so you won't starve :-) . Here is a list of places I know 1) Across the big road (Wiener Gürtel) is the Westbahnhof train station. There are plenty of places for a quick snack. The train station might be overrun with refugees though, so the wait might be long. 2) http://caspian.at/ A decent Persian restaurant. 3) http://www.7stern.at/ A good place for beer and Austrian food. My favorite for food tomorrow evening. 4) http://www.centimeter.at/die-centimeter/centimeter-spittelberg/ A student's place, but still good and relatively cheap. Good place if you are REALLY HUNGRY. 5) http://www.downstairs.at/ A really nice bar. Usually full. If you want to go there with a group > 3 call them first and reserve a table. 6) https://de.vapiano.com An international chain serving italian food. There's one place at Westbahnhof, but it's usually really, really full. There's another place with shorter waits two subway stops away(U3 -> Neubaugasse, or a nice 20 minute walk down Mariahilfer Straße) 7) http://www.mariahilferbrau.com/ Across the Gürtel plus 5 minute walk. It's in the non-fancy parts of Mariahilfer Straße. I've been there 2 times, they had good food and drinks. 8) http://www.kringers.at/ A nice Irish pub with the beers and ciders that usually goes along with an establishment like that. Good burgers. For those that don't feel like experimenting on day 1. A bit awkward to reach (one stop U6 to Burggasse - Stadthalle + ~10 minute walk, or ~30 minute walk from the Hotel) There are many, many more, those 8 are just the places I know. Also note that most restaurants in Austria have a smoking and non-smoking area. Usually it's obvious from the first second which is which, ask if you're in doubt. Unfortunately you sometimes have to pass through the smoking area to reach the non-smoking place from the entrance and / or to reach the toilet. BTW we have somewhat bad memories (customer service) about the cafe outside Schönbrunn Palace (Café-Restaurant Residenz, judging from characteristic internet photos of the interior and its service descriptions), but you'll quite possibly live to tell of much better luck... :) Greetings, Andreas (who keeps wondering whether it's a grave mistake to not join the fun :) -- GNU/Linux. It's not the software that's free, it's you.
