Could there be something about the options used for building the ubuntu-wine PPA packages that assume pulseaudio is installed, hence the occasional crashes when it isn't?
The Ubuntu packages include the winepulse driver, which is not part of plain Wine, not supported here, and has been reported to load itself and interfere with winealsa even if winealsa is selected as the driver and Pulseaudio is not installed on the system. Those packages also include unsupported changes to dsound and winegstreamer, so any sound-related issues that come up when using them should be reproduced in plain Wine before reporting here. -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply.
