The issue that we have (if you look at appdb page several of us have been working to try and locate issue) is that it _has_ worked in the past on the same box; with both the full version and the demo I've had the game working flawlessly in 3d. I've never been able to duplicate my efforts as to how I got it working, even doing the same steps which is why I'm raising this bug. The game has a separate 2d match bug/issue which I shall post at some point. So between these 2 errors the game is unplayable. Well from previous testing it seems the only thing that helped with running this game was running stress with threads equal to cores. This bug report might still be an issue since there was only a problem when 3d was enabled. I ask because the demo shows the same problem as your original description: I have to start the demo with 'taskset -c 0' in order to get it running. This is up until Wine 1.5.14. Well as of my 1.5.22 copy, you are right. The game (with native d3dx9_36) runs perfectly fine without anything else required.
So yeah, bug gone :) (if theres any fm2012 bugs that are similar, they should be closed to as well, I can test that game as well).
