Obviously something has been added recently that breaks it. Can you rename ~/.wine to let wine generate a new, clean wineprefix? Patch doesn't change the issue for me, still got the blackscreen. But for me it doesn't work with 1.8.5 either, maybe there's a second issue?
Using an R9 285 with mesa 13.0.2
For me it helped.
