I only tested the demo when for that commit that fixed the crash. (In reply to Robert Yu Tin-Tat from comment #3)
And I did use winetricks -q d3dx9 directplay l3codecx
Black background for main menu also happens for demo without winetricks. https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=59774#c8 Maybe there are some extra msxml3 bugs to fix for the full game which causes errors before winetricks apply to fix the black background. -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=59954 --- Comment #14 from Nikolay Sivov <bunglehead@gmail.com> --- I don't think it makes sense, it was crashing before this fix, so rendering issue were not really testable. Does the game ship d3dx9/d3dcompiler libraries? http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=59954 --- Comment #19 from Robert Yu Tin-Tat <robertyutintat@yahoo.com> --- Well, for d3dx9 DLLs, if you meant the entire set, I did use winetricks d3dx9. I just added all d3dcompiler_*.dll from Winetricks. However, both were met with no results. However, something did work well and that's using this: wine "/home/loginname/.wine/drive_c/Games/Age of Empires 3 - Complete Edition/bin/age3y.exe" I tried single player and LAN multiplayer. And the regression of the main menu screen kind of left! I found this out when I used the Wine Git Clone and typed the full path of the executable as shown above. Then I decided to try it on the installed Wine Development and it works! Nikolay, if you want to call it a fix, you can do so right now. I'll just leave it alone. During the process, I used Explorer to open the game because the regression did not occur the other way, so you'll have to sift through the extra lines of output. I apologise for the inconvenience. http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=59954 --- Comment #24 from Robert Yu Tin-Tat <robertyutintat@yahoo.com> --- And let me know if you can derive anything. What I did to reproduce the bug: 1. Using the prefix and the Upstream Wine, I entered Explorer. WINEPREFIX=/home/loginName/.regress/ ./wine explorer 2. Using Explorer, I navigated to the directory of the game in question. 3. I start the game. 4. Wait until the opening cinematics that do show without issue. 5. The black screen as shown in the screen print attached appears. However, if I directly the Wine command in the terminal like so: WINEPREFIX=/home/loginName/.regress ./wine explorer "/path/to/game/aoe3y.exe" the bug no longer appears. I hope I was succinct in providing adequate information. -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. Should I go to Winetricks and install the D3D Compiler?
See https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=59954#c18. If it worked before, setting d3dx9_25.dll (according to attached log) to native, builtin with winecfg should in principle bring old behavior back. -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=59954 --- Comment #28 from Robert Yu Tin-Tat <robertyutintat@yahoo.com> --- Still hasn't worked for me, by typing "winetricks d3dx9," winetricks has set most if not all dedx9 DLLs to override, including d3dx9_25.dll and they are all native. I also tried native, builtin for d3dx9_25, but the behaviour is still there. But I am able to play the game so I am going to leave well enough alone. After all I am lucky considering that Wine/Proton are still experimental. -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=59954 --- Comment #29 from Robert Yu Tin-Tat <robertyutintat@yahoo.com> --- The problem has resurfaced, and, this time, it is affecting Wine 11.18 straight from the repository as well as the Git clone. http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=59954 --- Comment #30 from Robert Yu Tin-Tat <robertyutintat@yahoo.com> --- Thought you should know: I turned down the graphics settings all the way down and the game seems to work fine, just with primitive graphics. http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=59954 --- Comment #31 from Robert Yu Tin-Tat <robertyutintat@yahoo.com> --- I tested the Wine Development versions further and, by just pinpointing the original behaviour further, I derived that it started at 11.10. 11.9 was the last version of which Wine crashed after the beginning cinematics. I am going to attempted another regression test, with the 11.9 behaviour being the "good" result even though 11.3 was the last "perfect" result. -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply.
