If I start MetaEditor 5 the ~/.xsession-errors file starts to fill up with
messages:
0120:fixme:file:GetLongPathNameW UNC pathname L"\\\\?\\C:\\Program
Files\\MetaTrader 5\\MQL5"

Not sure exactly how many messages are generated but it is somewhere in the
range of 10-100 per second.  The file quickly reaches MiB in size.

It is unfortunate that distributions put these messages in .xsession-errors.

I would run with WINEDEBUG=-all if you want to avoid this.

Either way there's not actually a Wine bug here.

It will only be put there if the program isn't started from a terminal but from
a menu entry from a .desktop entry.
Since those are likley generated by winemenubuilder, so it would need to be the
one to put WINEDEBUG=-all there.
Otherwise you'd have to override that in your whole session's environment.
Previously ~/.profile would have worked for that, nowadays with wayland
sessions it might not.
