Application: vatSys 1.4.20, a VATSIM air traffic control client
(https://virtualairtrafficsystem.com, free), 32-bit .NET Framework 4.8
WinForms. Its menus
and editor windows use the font family "Terminus (TTF)" through GDI+. The
installer ships a
single font file, TerminusTTF_Bold_B.ttf ("Terminus (TTF)" Bold, version 4.39).

Problem: with the bundled font installed, vatSys's drop-down menus open as
wide, blank
windows (full screen width with winex11 under KWin Wayland, narrower but still
blank with
winewayland), and text in its editor windows is misaligned.

With the bundled file replaced by the Terminus TTF 4.49.3 conversion from
https://files.ax86.net/terminus-ttf/ (copied to C:\windows\Fonts and registered
under
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Fonts), the menus and text
render
correctly. This holds with the full 4.49.3 family installed, and also with only
its Bold
face, so a bold-only family is not the trigger.

Differences found between the two Bold files (fontTools):
- the bundled file has a GDEF table; 4.49.3 has none
- usWinAscent/usWinDescent and hhea ascent/descent: 849/183 (bundled) vs
833/167
- embedded bitmap strikes: 12-28 ppem (bundled) vs 12-32 ppem
- otherwise identical cmap subtables (0/3/4, 1/0/6, 3/1/4), unitsPerEm 1000,
weight 700,
  fsSelection 0xa0, xAvgCharWidth 500, fixed pitch, both with EBDT/EBLC strikes
Removing the GDEF table alone, or changing only the ascent/descent values to
match 4.49.3,
does not fix the menus.

In wine-11.0, GdipCreateFontFamilyFromName("Terminus (TTF)") did not match the
bundled
bold-only family (it fell back to Tahoma), so the menus looked correct there;
in 11.20 the
family is matched and the menus break.

Steps to reproduce:
1. New 64-bit prefix (new WoW64), winecfg -v win11, winetricks -q dotnet48
2. Install vatSys and launch it; open any item in the main menu bar.
3. Result: wide, blank drop-down. Replace TerminusTTF_Bold_B.ttf with
TerminusTTF-Bold-4.49.3.ttf
   (registered under the same family), wineserver -k, relaunch: menus are
correct.

Environment: Wine 11.20 (d2d1-dcomp-11.20 fork of giang17/wine built from
source; the same
menu symptoms appeared earlier with the WineHQ 11.20 packages). Fedora 44, KDE
Plasma 6.7.5
(Wayland), NVIDIA RTX 3080, driver 615.78.08.
