[Bug 60427] New: Wine does not update or create prefix and sits there instead
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=60427 Bug ID: 60427 Summary: Wine does not update or create prefix and sits there instead Product: Wine Version: 11.19 Hardware: x86-64 OS: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: major Priority: P2 Component: -unknown Assignee: wine-bugs@list.winehq.org Reporter: robertyutintat@yahoo.com Target Milestone: --- Distribution: --- Created attachment 82236 --> http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=82236 Terminal Output On 11.19, Wine Development does not update nor create prefix; instead it just sits idly by in the middle. I am not sure that a regression test is possible since it's the base program that is misbehaving and not the program. Would you still prefer that I attempt one nonetheless? Attached is a terminal output. Also, I tried downgrading to the previous version (11.18). The bug is gone. Then when I went back to 11.19, the bug returns. -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=60427 --- Comment #1 from Robert Yu Tin-Tat <robertyutintat@yahoo.com> --- I should correct myself on this quote:
I am not sure that a regression test is possible since it's the base program >that is misbehaving and not the program.
I meant this:
I am not sure that a regression test is possible since it's the base program >that is misbehaving and not A program.

I am not sure that a regression test is possible since it's the base program that is misbehaving and not A program.

Q: Could you attach the exact command used to reproduce the issue? The exact command used to reproduce the issue was, simply, winecfg.
Q: Also does it hang only on prefix update from old to new wine or also hangs when creating new prefix? It hangs when I also create a new prefix.
I shall now test the third question. Thank you for answering back. -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

So it doesn't hang forever here, but just a considerably amount of time. I think this is due to recent dnsapi changes. I copied over dnsapi.dll from wine-staging-1.18 to wine-staging-1.19 and the problem is gone. @Hans: I added you to this bugreport: could you shed a light on this? -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. I downgraded to 11.18, copied both dnsapi.dlls from System32 and SysWOW64 to another directory, upgraded back to 11.19, entered
winecfg
let it freeze, cancelled it, and re-added the two dnsapi.dll and ran
winecfg
again, but to no avail. The program is still stuck. -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

By the way, winecfg is still sitting there as we speak, and I believe it's been an hour.
Well, I guess your problem is different then my then.Maybe you could check if it's a problem with your distro build (i assume you use that?) Does for example https://github.com/Kron4ek/Wine-Builds/releases/download/11.19/wine-11.19-st... show the same problem? (you can download that to /tmp' then tar xvf wine-11.19-staging-amd64.tar.xz; then do /tmp/wine-11.19-staging-amd64/bin/wine winecfg) -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. Here are the steps I took to apply it: 1. Download the patch in .patch format in the link provided. 2. Copy the patch to the Git Clone directory. 3. Ran git apply (git apply 63348a12b5b479b51208862dc1623fb56c7da3f2.patch). 4. Recompiled the Git Clone (make). 5. Ran the revised changes and tested it on a new prefix (WINEPREFIX=/home/bobbyyu/.regress ./wine winecfg). If there is a mistake within my steps, please tell us. -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply.
