[Bug 56681] New: 3d games continue receiving mouse input while not focused
https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=56681 Bug ID: 56681 Summary: 3d games continue receiving mouse input while not focused Product: Wine Version: 9.8 Hardware: x86-64 OS: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: winewayland Assignee: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org Reporter: pmargeti34(a)gmail.com Distribution: --- Wine wayland windows seem to get the mouse input even if the application window is not focused. 3D game world continues to respond to mouse input as if the game still had focus. To reproduce: -launch a 3d game in wayland mode (warframe in my example) -open another application and make sure it has focus -observe that when the mouse cursor is over the game window, game still receives input -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. It's definitely only 3D games, other apps aren't affected?
Please attach the full console output.
I don't have other wine-based apps on my system. Is there any application you can think of that grabs mouse input but isn't a 3d game you can think of that I can try with? -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=56681 --- Comment #9 from Mel <pmargeti34(a)gmail.com> --- The linked MR has been stale for 8 months now, with one contributor stating the following: "I don't know of any good-for-all-cases answer to the more general question about what to do when the lock is disabled by the system itself, since AFAIK this is not a possible scenario under win32. All of the following are viable options depending on the application: Do nothing (current code, i.e., keep relative motion enabled) Block all pointer motion events (this MR, but what about mouse button/axis events?) Switch to absolute events (e.g., if we are not dealing with a mouselook scenario) One concern I have with option (2) is that the cursor will just disappear when entering the unfocused window and leave the user without any feedback about what's going on. My personal preference is maintaining the current, more unopinionated "do nothing" approach and try to make some progress fixing the real underlying issue that's causing the bug." With all due respect to that opinion, I'm pretty sure the ingame camera doesn't induce nausea while one alt tabs to change song in a music player under windows. This also doesn't happen under Xwayland. -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=56681 Noel Bennett <theluckyone17@gmail.com> changed: What |Removed |Added ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- CC| |theluckyone17@gmail.com --- Comment #10 from Noel Bennett <theluckyone17@gmail.com> --- If it's any help, I've replicated the issue on my system, using Star Citizen (running within Wine). There's currently a shader issue (red/blue swapped) when using Vulkan and running under X11. Switching to Wayland resolved the issue, but introduced the cursor issue. When my character in Star Citizen is on foot (mouselook enabled; mouse controls the character's viewpoint) and I alt-tab out to another window (browser or Discord), SC continues to change the viewpoint as I move the cursor out to the browser window. It primarily becomes an issue when attempting to manually document data that's on screen in SC into the browser window (such as passing ore refinery job data to https://Regolith.Rocks or other game info to Discord). My workaround up to this point has been to take a screenshot of the relevant data, then alt-tab out. I'll also note that it has not occurred in other applications, but I believe SC is the one one I'm running under Wine & Wayland. -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. The game still receives and moves its camera even if it's not keyboard-focused. Just today I had a discussion with Etaash here: https://github.com/Etaash-mathamsetty/Proton/issues/113 and there are also some demonstration videos. I also added some findings and questions here: https://gitlab.winehq.org/wine/wine/-/merge_requests/7475#note_142413.. http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=56681 --- Comment #12 from Mel <pmargeti34@gmail.com> --- I've just posted a patch here: https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=59740#c2 It fixes this bug by fixing the root issue. I've tested it on Warframe successfully, camera stops spinning and cursor is no longer invisible over Warframe's surface when it doesn't have the focus. Please test with other affected software. -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

Tested with 4D Miner and my winit demo. It fixes the issue. But on Hyprland it doesn't work (app still not receiving focus loss on focus change to a non-wine app) for unknown reason. (works for kwin_wayland, mutter, niri, sway compositor but not for hyprland). -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. might be worth opening a hyprland issue for this then, maybe they're doing something differently -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=56681 --- Comment #15 from Mel <pmargeti34@gmail.com> --- Created attachment 82042 --> http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=82042 Workaround for the focus-loss camera spin issue (Wine 11.17) I've been using this patch as a stopgap while waiting for Etaash Mathamsetty's proper xdg-activation implementation. It sets the foreground window to desktop on keyboard focus loss and prevents WM_WAYLAND_SET_FOREGROUND from overriding it. Note: This is a temporary workaround, not a proper fix. Etaash has been working on a complete xdg-activation solution that will properly handle window activation, restore from minimize, and all the other focus-related edge cases. This patch just makes the Wayland driver usable for gamers in the meantime. Apply with: bash cd wine git apply /path/to/wayland-focus-fix-keyboard.patch Tested on: mutter (Gnome Wayland) Proper solution: Etaash's xdg-activation work (when ready) -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply.
