Another post mentioned that you have to add a line in Xnews.ini:

[Display]
Jpeg=1 

Also, when he says "inline jpg", he means "uuencoded jpgs should
be decoded and displayed inline in place of the uuencoded crud".
These images are often posted to newsgroups like alt.binaries.pictures.military.
