http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=60175 Bug ID: 60175 Summary: wine 11 (Fedora 44, X11): Fallout 3 crashes when starting new game Product: Wine Version: 11.0 Hardware: x86-64 OS: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown Assignee: wine-bugs@list.winehq.org Reporter: klaus.alvmn@t-online.de Target Milestone: --- Distribution: --- Created attachment 81830 --> http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=81830 Problem, machine, environment, installation, crash, wine output, backtrace, other tries After successful installation of Fallout 3 (Game of the Year, german) I can start the launcher and edit the options. Clicking on "Spielen (Game?)" the program starts normally, sound is playing correctly. I can view and edit options, keyboard etc. When choosing "New Game", the program crashes. The standard change limiting the number of cores has been applied: bUseThreadedAI=1 iNumHWThreads=2 I have seen the bug reports (hopefully all), but their solutions did not help, see detals in attachment. -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=60175 --- Comment #2 from Klaus Alvermann <klaus.alvmn@t-online.de> --- 1) Yes, I already tried that (forget to mention it in the list of things "already tried"); just tried it again, no change to the error message. I just copied the file to /home/storage/wine/machine/fallout3/drive_c/game/fallout3/d3d9.dll I did not add an override or similar in winecfg. 2) Just to clarify, I am not using a "Steam" version; I am using an old fashioned version on 2 DVDs I bought some decades ago. -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=60175 --- Comment #4 from Vishnunithyasoundhar S <svishnunithyasoundhar@gmail.com> --- `I did not add an override or similar in winecfg.` Just copying does nothing different. You will need to add it to the override in winecfg for dlls that you want to specifically use. -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=60175 --- Comment #5 from Klaus Alvermann <klaus.alvmn@t-online.de> --- That did it, the problem is solved, thanks a lot. 1) Using "Fallout 3 Intel bypass package-17209-1-1.zip" from Nexus [ ] extracted "d3d9.dll" to /home/storage/wine/machine/fallout3/drive_c/game/fallout3/d3d9.dll [ ] winecfg, Libraries, added "d3d9": "d3d9 (native, builtin)" under "Existing overrides" [ ] Start game as described: ( ) Launcher: "Detecting your graphic hardware" Remark: now shows "NVidia" instead of "Intel Graphics" ( ) Aspect Ratio: 16:9; Resolution 1920x1080; Options "very high" ( ) Game -> New Game -> everything OK 2) Additional test: [ ] Replaced the game directory and the two setting directories under "user" with their counterparts from the wine V3.7 prefix on my old machine [ ] Applied the two patches (number of threads, d3d9.dll) [ ] Again "Detecting your hardware" with above results. [ ] Now "Load Game" is available and I could successfully load my old saves. 3) When testing this previously I did it under winearch=win64 and mixed up with a lot of other tests (especially the winetricks). Maybe that is the reason it did not work then. 4) I have noted the posts by Ken Sharp (Bug 58010) and noted and followed the links to the notes on how to install the current version under Fedora 44. I will keep that in mind. However, for now I will keep my working system (I am more of a "never change a running system" type). 5) Thanks a lot for your fast reaction and the successful solution, I appreciate that. From my side, the ticket can be closed. Do I have to do anything more for that? If yes, let me know. -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply.
