[Bug 9455] New: Sword of the New World: Crashes on start after update
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=9455 Summary: Sword of the New World: Crashes on start after update Product: Wine Version: 0.9.44. Platform: PC URL: http://www.swordofthenewworld.com OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: wine-misc AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org ReportedBy: quadomatic(a)gmail.com Created an attachment (id=7787) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=7787) WINE Output in Terminal when running Sword of the New World This is a bug when running the MMORPG - Sword of the New World: Granado Espada, Version 2.2.5 After installing IEs4Linux and starting the game with the following command (so as to avoid a problem with Flash in the game launcher): WINEPREFIX="/home/YOUR_USERNAME/.ies4linux/ie6" wine ge.exe And then starting the game, the game starts X-Trap anti-cheat software (whether that crashed or not, I don't know) and then the game crashes. Here are my system specs: Ubuntu 7.04 Feisty Athlon 64 3300+ Socket 754 ATI X850 PRO 256MB PCI-E VIVO (ATI Driver 8.40.4) 768 MB of Ram Thanks -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

Here was the actual guide: http://forum.swordofthenewworld.com/index.php?showtopic=3567&pid=36687&mode=... I'm only supposed to launch the flash launcher to patch the game. You're actually supposed to move into the release directory, and then launch the game using this command: wine ge.exe -SERVICE I tried it, and it crashes just the same. Ubuntu 7.04 Athlon XP 1800+ 1GB RAM GeForce4 Ti4400+ with nvidia-glx-legacy driver (version 1.0.7184+2.6.20.5-16.29) Wine 0.9.44 from the wine.budgetdedicated.com ubuntu repo Since our video cards couldn't be more different, it smells like it's more likely a weirdly implemented system call, but then I'm not familiar with the wine source so of course I'm just stabbing in the dark. One thing I forgot to mention earlier is that the window comes up at the selected resolution, but all in white, and stays for about 10 seconds before the game crashes. I also had the same behavior on wine 0.9.43 before I upgraded to 0.9.44. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

Yep. The first time it seemed to update itself. Now it just pops up for about a second, a few seconds before the whole thing blows up. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=9455 --- Comment #11 from Aneesh <quadomatic(a)gmail.com> 2007-08-25 22:13:26 --- Since it now appears that I'm NOT crazy, and it's not just my video card (FOR ONCE), I hope the WINE developers are trying to see if this error can be reproduced. Before 0.9.44, I would get a sound driver error when I tried to run the game. I was hoping that since the last tests I heard of, D3D improved enough that there wouldn't be problems playing the game. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=9455 --- Comment #12 from Aneesh <quadomatic(a)gmail.com> 2007-08-25 22:31:23 --- WOW Something CRAZY just happened, where I got a different error. I couldn't save the WINE output though, because it was too big, and I didn't actually have anything there. It was all just "fixme:" stuff relating to some "dxdiag:IDxDiagContainerImpl_AddProp" thing. Then I got an error message from a special X-Trap window that says it couldn't start or something like that... I tried running it again, and got the same old error I was getting before. Interesting...maybe X-Trap has something to do with this. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

I don't think it's all there because it was too large. I've only gotten this error ONCE. Never again. I also saw an X-Trap Error message, in a special X-Trap Error window. I didn't write down exactly what it said, but it said something about it not being able to start properly, or something along the lines of that. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

Why would Sword of the New World have safedisc? It's a free MMORPG.
Well, it's x-copy, which uses some of the same features as safedisc (xvd files). From reading the safedisc bug, it seems many other copy protection programs don't work for the exact same reason, safedisc was just the first to surface. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=9455 --- Comment #24 from James Jurack <jorenko+wine(a)gmail.com> 2007-08-26 10:39:12 --- Created an attachment (id=7809) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=7809) output after copying system32 folder My original attachment is from when I was getting the read fault crash; I have now already copied my windows install's system32 folder to my .wine's system32 folder, and the read fault has gone away. Presumably some DLL or another in there was being accessed. Now, I get the login screen for about 3 seconds, then an x-trap error and the game exits. I don't see a backtrace or anything, so it seems like a controlled shutdown by x-trap. A few times I saw VXD failures, but I haven't gotten that the last few tries.
