I have only installed wine geko and did not touch anything of my wine installation. ...I find it highly suspicious that there's only one line in the first log - at minimum, there should be a backtrace too (as you say it's a crash).

Currently, the interesting log would be 'fonts,gdiplus', if your hunch is correct and it indeed is a font related problem. Comment 4 was just my musings about the content of your comment 3, again - as long as it's unknown what is going wrong, 'all' or even 'all,-heap' is just too large a haystack go look for an unknown needle within it. The game will open and run (but no text nor the ability to create a save) with forks like kro4ek and soda, which ofc brought some modification we don't have. Anyway installing cjkfonts on a ja_JP locale fixes the text, but saving is still not possible. Sorry for the late reply since I'm currently having a bad fever and can't test for a few days. Unable to reproduce any crashes. Menu fonts work without any winetricks so fakejapanese_ipamona is only required for in-game dialog. Save/Load works without requiring any winetricks. This bug should remain open until wine provides a fix without requiring winetricks as workaround. (In reply to Austin English from comment #5)

Point of Bugzilla has always remained crystal clear. My point was expressing forgiveness/understanding for what some may consider noise that I had to parse to make progress for this bug related to the other font bugs I'm collecting for further fixes without winetricks. Some signals break through noise overwhelming deafening silence of robotic responses. Context and nuance felt appropriate. Forgive me for feeling.
