The bug still happens and the output is nearly the same, expect that now there
is indeed no longer any "X Error of failed request" message.

But still, if I start the game it crashes back to desktop immediately. It
doesn't even change the resolution back.

The wine-output is still the same expect for the X error at the end. I attached
the log again and ran wine with +d3d9, but this only gives three new lines.

> trace:d3d9:DllMain fdwReason=1
> trace:d3d9:DllMain fdwReason=0
> all other messages stayed the same expect for changing hex-codes.

I tried it with the current CVS (2006-08-21 13:00)
The patch you mentioned seems to have been applied on 2006-08-17 12:06
