This solved the problem for me with Wine 0.9.39 + Nvidia driver 1.0.9639

1) Install DirectX 9.0c (unclear if this made a difference since the game should
have installed what it needed).

2) Regedit these changes from
http://www.holarse-linuxgaming.de/h2006/space/Warhammer+Mark+Of+Chaos
into the registry of wine
